Eskom and energy and chemical organization, Sasol, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to "collaboratively explore and research potential potential liquified natural gas (LNG) requirements".

That is based on a joint statement by the two companies, following the signing ceremony from the MoU on Friday.

"The collaboration aims to ascertain the probable volumes that South Africa demands to determine a viable LNG import industry, along with the enabling infrastructure, and may be facilitated by federal government-to-govt relations where by important."

"This initiative focuses on making use of gas for electricity generation to supply essential base load electricity and position gas as a key enabler of re-industrialisation, whilst also making certain ongoing supply to the market by unlocking world wide LNG resources.
